Itapuã
by Rejane Carvalho Leite
Combining aluminum, rope and wood, the Itapuã chair is distinguished by technical solutions that challenge the eye and suggest an intriguing play on tensions between the backrest's naval rope weave and the turned wooden feet, which are inclined at the exact angle to achieve the desired comfort. The seat, also in rope, composed of a plaid braid, has a recessed silhouette, enabling the chair to be stacked. The name Itapuã comes from the Tupi-Guarani which means fishing harpoon. Thus, the hind feet resemble and stand out from the set, reminding this instrument used by the indigenous.
