Sagano

The name Sagano is a reference to the Sagano Bamboo forest in Japan, one of the strongest visual and cultural references we used during the creative process, representing a symbolic part of the whole complex Japanese culture. The insight for the line was the observation of the textures formed by the different layers of bamboos, of different thicknesses, shapes, and inclinations, in an overlapping as far as the eye can see. The study shed light on characteristics of Japanese carpentry, such as precision, efficient simplicity, and serenity, as well as the search to reflect on the cultural values of this people. The feet are key elements: massive, robust, and oblong shaped; they set the tone for the entire design. Above them, the solid wood structure is carefully paginated to form a board on which loose, soft futon-style cushions can be freely dispersed as needed. The Sagano dining table closes the line by bringing valuable elements of solid wood cabinetry, balanced with textures plotted in nautical rope, an essential Dona Flor characteristic. The result is a strong table with a light and harmonious look.
